A considered approach
Do hotel star ratings dictate lighting?
Hotelstars Union publishes criteria for participating classification systems, including room and reading-light considerations. This does not mean every European hotel uses the same scheme or that a star number establishes a single mandatory lux target. Review the current criteria with the operator, then coordinate the separate electrical, accessibility and fire requirements for the project location.
What matters here
- 01
Check the scheme actually used by your hotel
- 02
Separate classification from building regulations
- 03
Translate guest expectations into a practical brief
What to include in your brief
Tell us the target category, classification scheme and operator standards.
Planning guidance, not a substitute for project-specific engineering. Confirm the applicable local requirements with your design team.
